- DAVE BRUBECK Dr. Joe Gilman is a full-time professor of music at American River College in Sacramento, an adjunct professor of jazz studies at Sacramento State, and a longtime associate of the Brubeck Institute and the Stanford Jazz Workshop. He has twice been an International Jazz Ambassador through the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. In addition to his work with the Capital Jazz Project and the Sacramento Jazz Orchestra, Dr. Gilman was a longtime collaborator with jazz vibraphonist Bobby Hutcherson and has performed or recorded with Eddie Harris, Woody Shaw, Marlena Shaw, George Duke, Chris Botti, Joe Henderson, and Jeff Watts, to name a few. Joe was named the first Brubeck Scholar at the 2005 Brubeck Festival, and in 2004, he won the Great American Jazz Piano Competition in Jacksonville, Florida. Dr. Gilman's work with the students at the Brubeck Institute and American River College has resulted in twenty DownBeat Magazine student awards. |
Jennifer ReasonHailed as a pianist "in the league of Carnegie Hall," Jennifer Reason is a vibrant performer in consistent demand. She gave her first solo recital at the age of 5, and had acquired her first Staff Pianist position by the tender age of 12. She has since gone on to appear in solo and ensemble performances across Europe, the United States and Canada. Jennifer is an adept pianist and vocalist in a variety of genres. She is currently the Artistic Director for the Reconciliation Singers Voices of Peace, as well as the recently appointed Music Director of the Rogue Music Project. When not performing, Jennifer enjoys working as a freelance session player, as well as maintaining an accomplished private teaching studio. To round out her endeavors, you can hear her on Capitol Public Radio as the Midday Classical Host, 88.9FM.

Philip HowardAn award winning composer and pianist, Philip Howard is the founder of Sacramento Piano Day. With a background in writing music for film - Philip graduated with the highest honors in Film Scoring from Berklee College of Music - he loves exploring and expressing the spaces in-between, taking listeners on a journey to familiar memories and new experiences. His debut album "Connected" was awarded a silver medal for outstanding achievement by the Global Music Awards. A firm believer in the benefits and importance of music education, Philip is proud to teach piano at the Natomas School of Music, in addition to his private studio.
